The Roche SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test is what's referred as a "lateral-flow chromatographic immunoassay". It is carried out using a swab sample taken from the nose or throat and after the addition of a buffer solution, the sample is pipetted onto a testing cartridge where qualitative detection of coronavirus proteins is achieved within just 15 minutes - producing a colouring reaction on the device.
- The testing process involves an easy-to-carry-out procedure with a straightforward, visually observable result
- It has a sensitivity of 96.52% and a specificity of 99.68%, based on 426 samples from two independent study centres
- Tests are for professional use only and can not be used as self-testing/ home test kits - they must be delivered by trained personnel
- Orders are made available within a maximum 5-day lead time, but generally available with next day delivery - advance notice is advised due to high demand.
- The Roche test meets the MHRA IVD Guidelines - it is CE/IVD Marked
- There will be no additional delivery fees
Generally, tests are available for small-scale orders with Next Working Day delivery if placed before 11am.
For larger scale orders, we advise a clear 5 working days notice, but will endeavour to support all requests with an urgent dispatch.
How can it help our organisation to prevent cases?
Positive results indicate that a test subject has been exposed to the virus and may have an active, early-stage infection.
It will therefore help you to make important decisions quickly – allowing management to identify and isolate cases before infections can unknowingly transmit between colleagues and other people or compromise the COVID security of your workplace. You can utilise rapid testing as part of a wider portfolio of measures to manage risks to your team, customers or people at the point of care to detect cases in both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.
Who can use these tests, for what purpose?
Organisations who want to regularly screen their staff, or intend to employ in-house testing for patients and residents can do so with this innovative testing solution – all at a fraction of the cost of private PCR lab-based testing.
In cases where publicly available tests are inaccessible or experiencing ad-hoc capacity issues – Roche Rapid Antigen Tests can empower health and social care organisations and private sector companies to deliver independent, de-centralised management of COVID-19 transmission in their workplace. This will also help to identify suitable candidates for NHS testing and alleviate pressures on public schemes.
Tests should be administered by healthcare or trained occupational health staff. This is to ensure that proper protocols are observed and that test results are given correctly. It should be assumed that each person receiving the test is providing a sample that contains infective agents. Positive cases should be referred onto NHS Test and Trace so that services can be signposted and appropriate instructions given.
